The Pebble Steel adds fashion on top of the original Pebble watch’s function. That aesthetic is a welcome upgrade, but it is important to point out that this is the only significant upgrade from its predecessor, and becomes a $100 premium.
The Pebble Steel is available in matte black (shown) or brushed stainless steel– both will appear to the unaware as just a “nice looking regular watch”. But with the recent firmware update, (as well as software, new Pebble App) this Second-Gen Pebble is a very capable Android Smartwatch. A majority of Pebble apps are free, and include Television and camera Remote Controls, Sleep Cycle tracking, Step-taking, Cycling, Driving, Home-automation apps (turn on/off lights, control a Nest Thermostat) as well as the relatively smartphone-standard calendar and list apps.
In the end, the Pebble Steel is a solid smartwatch with style.
