Many consider the Motorola Moto 360 the best available smartwatch. Elegant (particularly compared to other offerings) and extremely light (49g without the band) it combines great looks with a lot of features. The Moto 360 stainless steel body has a beveled edge, and so does the Gorilla Glass 3 over the face making the surface appear to sit on top of the watch. The back of the plastic is less elegant but this likely helps it keep the overall weight of the watch to a minimum.

Located on the bottom of the display is a small ambient light sensor – this assists the watch with battery life, helping it to choose how bright to display the screen. The Moto 360 has a heart rate monitor that while not on all the time, is easy enough to actuate with a voice command, and is handy for exercising. (Voice Command is also used to start apps and Google Now Voice Search).

The Qi style charger that the 360 utilizes means you can simply drop it on the charging cradle; no need to connect it to some proprietary cable like the Sony SW1. You can also use any other standard Qi charger, such as this one from Vority.

The Motorola 360 watch has one metal, crown button on the right hand side for toggling the display on or off, or hold and press for watch settings. Like other Android Wear devices, the watch display is a touch screen and reacts to up/down, left/right swiping.

While most other Android Wear watches remain in Ambient mode all the time, (lower brightness based on the available light, black & white screen), the Motorola 360 by default is in “Ambient Mode Off”, rendering the watch face blank (and helping to extend battery life) until you lift your wrist to look at it.

The LG G Watch R is the only currently available Android Smartwatch that is a true, full circle (the bottom of the Moto 360 is cut off for the “digitizer”).

The LG G Watch R has a crown button on the right side which is a power button and also lends access to the settings menu, an outer dial for displaying  minutes, and a metal bezel. Where the Moto 360 goes after minimalism, the G Watch R looks like a diving watch.

The G Watch R has sharp, vibrant colors on its battery saving Plastic OLED screen.

A leather strap comes with the G Watch R, but you can purchase any standard 22mm watch strap that you like to compliment it. However its important to point out that LG had in mind that you might want to use certain straps depending on what you were going to do while wearing the watch, like using a canvas watch strap while using the Camping Watch Face, or possibly a rubber watch band while exercising, or hiking to accompany the hiking watch face (which can show distance and altitude). To see a video showing off several off the watch faces, visit the link below.

The rear of the device houses a heart-rate sensor for fitness and activity tracking, along with metal charging pins which are required to charge the watch using a separate cradle.

As mentioned above the LG G Watch R’s watchface is completely circular. The rival Motorola 360 is cut off at the bottom to make room for the digitizer.

The G Watch R’s 1.6in 320 x 320 OLED display is nice and bright offering satisfactory viewing outdoors. The Plastic OLED also means that it should use less power – particularly if a minimalist black watch face is utilized – as all of the black pixels will be turned off, saving juice in the 410mAh battery..

Its got watch-form and function, and you could start a phone call with it, but at the end of the day, LG G Watch is a wrist-worn notification delivery system. Not an overly complicated device, nor a fashion piece – it delivers the Android Wear in a way that makes it easy to become acquainted with it.
LG G Watch ships with a simple rubber strap, but because it makes use of a standard 22mm size, it is easily customized (unlike the Samsung Gear Live).

You charge the G Watch on a magnetic dock that gets its power from a standard USB cable. The magnets help keep the watch in place, but will require that you set it in “just right”. Originally, you couldn’t buy a spare charger for the G Watch, but they are recently available via the Google Play store. How long will that charge last? Reports are a full day (8am – 9pm) with regular use, more if you aren’t constantly checking it.
There are three standard display settings for Android Wear full on, always on, dimmed, and monochrome time only setting, allowing you to modify how the time is displayed (different watch faces), + a mini view of the top Google Now card. As mentioned before, the LG G Watch has been reported to be difficult to read outdoors, so the “full on” will be the best to see in sunny daylight.

LG’s G Watch is water and dust resistant (to IP67 standards) so feel free to wear it in the shower.
